GROUND HANDLING OPERATIONS

Ground handling services comprises of all those service requirements of any airliner between the time of arrival and departure i.e, the time it arrives at the terminal and the time it departs for the next flight. Some airlines receive these services from a Ground Handling Services Company, while others prefer to use their own equipment.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), conservative estimates indicate airlines outsource more than 50 per cent of the ground handling that takes place at the world's airports Speed, effectiveness, and precision are important in ground handling services in order to minimize the turnaround time .

Ground handling in itself may comprise of various services, we here at TBS provide the following services:-

(1) Cargo: Handling "Cargo Handling Service" means loading, unloading, packing or unpacking of cargo which includes cargo handling services provided for freight in special containers or for non-containerized freight, services provided by a container freight terminal or nay other freight terminal, for all modes of transport and cargo handling services incidental to freight, but does not include handling of export cargo or passenger baggage or mere transportation of goods.

(2) Passenger Handling: Passenger handling may involve ticketing, baggage sorting, lobby management, gate assignment, boarding, disembarkation, baggage and freight handling etc. All these need expertise and well trained staff. We at TBS manage all this as per norms and guidelines.

(3) Loading & Unloading of Aircraft: : Another major work where a large number of people are employed is the task of loading and unloading of aircrafts. All commercial aircrafts rarely fly empty that means it carries huge number of various types of items. Carrier cargos load the planes with various types of freight- packages, mails, pets, perishable items, human remains at times. Other than these passengers are loaded along with eatables for the flight etc. During the check in process a tag with bar code is attached to our luggage, this further helps in understanding the flight number, destination of the passenger. The logistics required for this huge operation is massive and needs a well trained staff to avoid any risk and discomfort to the passengers.
